Face Your Fears this Halloween

Halloween is more than just a day for costume parties: it heralds the start of what can be a very demanding holiday season. This time of year can be quite challenging for those who suffer from anxiety, particularly in social situations.

The good news is that fears of any kind can be faced and they don’t have to limit how you live your life. Having said that, the journey to overcoming fear begins with understanding.

What is anxiety?

This general term refers to several disorders, such as social anxiety, phobias, OCD, and PTSD. When you have anxiety, you feel nervous, afraid, or apprehensive and this constant feeling of worry affects how you behave.

Besides disturbing your emotional wellbeing, anxiety can manifest itself in significant ways through physical symptoms. Moreover, statistics have shown that one in four Canadians will have an anxiety disorder in their lifetime. Clearly, this is not a matter to be overlooked.

Phobias are among the most common forms of anxiety. It may be a crippling fear of heights, flying, public speaking, going to the doctor, or even daily tasks such as driving or using bathrooms, that makes it seem impossible to face these situations.

If you have such a disorder, you may have learned to live with it. However, the truth is that there is no reason to let fear control your life, no matter how powerful it may seem.

How Can you Start Overcoming Fear?

On Halloween, fear becomes entertainment: we make scary costumes and watch horror movies on tv. In a way, we are facing our fears and making light of them. When we watch a scary movie we may jump in our seats but, at the end of the night, we can sleep peacefully because we know that it would be irrational to fear such things as gremlins and zombies.

Part of overcoming your anxiety is understanding, not only that there is often nothing to be afraid of, but also that worrying won’t help. For example, it may be helpful to know that the chance of dying in a plane crash is one in eleven million. Car crashes, on the other hand, are much more likely. However, fear will not protect you from danger.

Instead, when it comes to safety while driving, you can make sure to be mindful of the road, never drink and drive, always wear a seatbelt, and follow the speed limit. Being aware of the actual risk and taking practical steps to protect yourself will prepare you to face these situations with confidence.

Hypnosis for Anxiety

Unfortunately, for those with anxiety disorders, it is not always as simple as knowing the facts and being properly prepared.

If you are ready to try a new approach to get over your fears, then hypnosis might be a good method to try. We offer a free 40-minute screening to assess your situation and provide thorough and forthright information on how hypnosis works, and whether or not it can work for you. Please call (647) 210-8842 and see if hypnosis is right for you!

Hypnosis For Pain Management

“Don’t fight your pain; you can’t win. The paradox of recovery is that you have to surrender to win. Accepting what you cannot change makes the difference.” – Adapted from Pain Recovery:  How to Find Balance and Reduce Suffering from Chronic Pain

Hypnosis is a very effective tool that can help with the management of pain. Hypnosis doesn’t make the pain go away. Rather you learn techniques to help you deal better with the pain, and reduce the stress associated with it.

As a client once told me regarding her pain in her leg:  “I know that the pain is still there, but I just don’t think about it that much any longer. I used to think about it 24/7 and it was all that was on my mind.”

Pain And Your Mindset

If you are always thinking to yourself, “I cannot do anything about my pain!” then it will constantly be on your mind. You will never be able to dissociate with it. One of the things that hypnosis for pain management can do, is to help you to change thinking patterns that make your pain feel worse. How incredible would it be if you knew the pain was there, but you learned techniques through hypnosis to help you change your mindset so you could focus on other things!

According to a July 2, 2014 article from the American Psychological Association:  “A meta-analysis (a study of studies) in 2000 of 18 published studies by psychologists Guy Montgomery, PhD, Katherine DuHamel, PhD, and William Redd, PhD, showed that 75% of clinical and experimental participants with different types of pain obtained substantial pain relief from hypnotic techniques.”

Consult With A Physician

Before using hypnosis for pain management, you want to ensure first that the pain isn’t being caused by something that requires medical attention. In fact, if a client wants to see me for pain management hypnosis, it is my policy that I will send a letter to their doctor to make them aware that the client is using hypnosis to help them with a pain. Hypnosis can help to manage the pain, and after a short time, essentially help you to “forget” about the pain and concentrate on other things in your life.

There could be huge implications if the headaches were caused by something far more serious (a tumor, circulation issues, etc.) that required medical intervention, and you ignored them! So it is very important that you first consult with a physician regarding any pain before starting hypnosis.

If you are interested in seeing how hypnosis can help you manage your pain (or lose weight, quit smoking, gain confidence, or deal with stress), please give me a call. I offer a free screening to every client to determine whether hypnosis is going to work for them, and also if they are ready for hypnosis.

The Importance Of Enough Sleep

“I think if you have a good night’s sleep, you can take on the world.” – Tamsin Egerton

Why Sleep Is Important

Getting a good night’s sleep always makes you feel better. What a lot of people don’t realize is that the importance of sleep is not just about putting you in a better mood, or getting rid of those dark circles under the eyes. Getting adequate sleep is a significant part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and among other things, it can also benefit your mind, your heart, and even your weight.

Ever wondered why your children are sometimes misbehaving? While other factors may be at play, a big contributing reason may simply be that they are not getting enough sleep. According to a Reuters Health article from March 16, 2017, lead author, Dr. Elise Taveras told the publication: “Children who aren’t getting the recommended amount of sleep have more difficulties with attention, with emotional control, with reasoning, with problem-solving, and also have behavioral problems.” What is also important to remember is that adults need their sleep just as much as kids do.

Sleep Can Affect Weight

Regarding your weight, the same areas of your brain control sleep and your metabolism. In a March 4, 2018 story on Health.com, University of Chicago researchers noticed that people trying to lose weight lost similar amounts of total weight regardless of how much sleep they were getting. However they found that:  “…dieters who were well rested lost more fat—56% of their weight loss—than those who were sleep deprived, who lost more muscle mass. Dieters in the study also felt more hungry when they got less sleep…When you are sleepy, certain hormones go up in your blood, and those same hormones drive appetite.” This is significant evidence to make sure you’re getting enough sleep if you’re trying to lose weight, and it’s one of the things I stress with my weight loss hypnosis clients.

When you aren’t getting the right amount of slumber, you can become careless at work, grumpy in your relationship, your health can decline, and overall you just don’t feel right.

How Hypnosis Can Treat Sleep Disorders

While there may be other health issues at play, one of the biggest factors for ensuring a restful sleep, is simply reducing the stress and fears in your life. Using hypnosis, I help clients learn to relax, thereby enabling them to let go of the “things on their mind” so that they can have a better night’s sleep. The incredible changes clients notice when they are going with the flow and relaxing are evident in many areas of their lives—but most notably when they sleep.

Improving your sleep is just one of the many issues with which hypnosis can help. And whether you are looking to stop smoking, build your confidence, fix a performance anxiety, or lose weight, hypnosis is an incredible tool to assist you in reaching your goals. It’s safe, painless, relaxing, and a lot of fun!

I offer a free consultation screening to every client to assess whether hypnosis is going to work for them, and also if they are ready for hypnosis.

Our 5th Anniversary: A Reflection

This Month We Celebrate Our 5th Business Anniversary!

I’ve always enjoyed inspiring and empowering others to make changes, and becoming a hypnotist has allowed me to help people even more.

Whether you want to lose weight, stop smoking, reduce stress, improve your confidence, or get over performance anxiety, it all starts with a desire to help yourself. Once you realize that it starts with YOU, and you make the decision that you want to start the change, your chances for success increase dramatically—no matter which modality of help you utilize.

Over these first 5 years, I’ve had some very interesting clients (with issues beyond the more common ones named above):

  1. A woman came to see me last year that had a frustrating habit of picking her skin. In just a few short weeks, she found a new way to deal with her stress and was able to eliminate her habit.
  2. There was a man who was an avid sailor for most of his life, and suddenly without any apparent reason, became fearful to get on his boat. When he was aboard, the stress and anxiety cut short every journey. By using hypnosis, he found new ways to deal with his fear, and once again found himself enjoying his passion and loving being out on the water again.
  3. I recently finished helping a man in his late 20’s who suffered from erectile dysfunction. He found that this performance anxiety had also caused so many problems in other areas of his life. Hypnosis helped him to regain his self-confidence to the point that he rekindled love with his partner, got engaged, and also has now begun the journey of finding a new job!
  4. The last story I wanted to share is about a pre-teen who is a gifted competitive hockey player, who started losing his edge after a coach dealt harshly with him. As his parent told me, “He can skate like the wind, and outplay and out-maneuver most on the ice, but he’s now lost his confidence.” Within a very short time with hypnosis, he was able to get back to his former-self while in the game. In addition, his parent commented on his increased focus on responsibilities at home, and also how his grades started to improve!

The common thread with these examples is that the clients all wanted to get help for themselves, and took the steps to do the same. Fantastic!

Our Clients Are #1

Even though I have just a few instances, of course, ALL of my clients are valuable and special to me. May 28th will be my 5th year anniversary, and my business is growing more each year. I’m happy to say that I actually learn more about life and hypnosis from each client that comes to work on their issues. The experience with each gives me even more tools to add to my resources that I can in turn use to help the next person.

From the very first person who came to me for help, to my most recent clients, I am grateful for their business and proud of all of them for taking the steps and having the courage and persistence to seek help for their issues.

I offer a free hypnosis screening to every client to assess whether hypnosis is going to work for them, and also if they are ready for hypnosis.

In addition, we have an incredible Anniversary Sale on right now! You can get $100.00 off any hypnosis program you sign up for. Just be sure to mention the code:  “HAPPY5TH” when booking to take advantage of the offer.

Hypnosis For Public Speaking

“According to most studies, people’s number one fear is public speaking. Number two is death. Death is number two. Does that sound right? This means to the average person, if you go to a funeral, you’re better off in the casket than doing the eulogy.” – Jerry Seinfeld

Public Speaking Is Very Common

The above is a very funny quote, but unfortunately the fear of speaking in public is more common that you may think. It is estimated that around 75% of people experience some form of anxiety when they speak in public. Often the real trouble starts hours, days and even weeks before the actual event. This leads to a feeling of fear that can become so strong, that one may even withdraw from doing the actual speech.

How Hypnosis Can Help

Fear of public speaking can be a very big problem if your job is dependent on your presenting and speaking in front of clients or staff. But what if you were so scared to talk in front of a crowd at a family function, that you were nervous to show up for the party?

I had one such instance with a client who came to me because her mother’s 70th birthday was approaching in a few weeks, and she knew that she was going to have to say something in front of the estimated 75 guests. She was so upset and terrified, and wasn’t sure how she was going to pull it off. Results of course do vary with individuals, but in her case, through her work with hypnosis, she was able to deliver the speech without a problem. She told me afterwards that she felt so good that she just wanted to keep speaking. She was overjoyed that her mother received a “heartwarming, clear sweet speech”.

Many have various amounts of stress, anxiety, and fear and also a lack of self-confidence when it comes to public speaking. Hypnosis can be a very effective way to help overcome the fear of public speaking, and get you on the road to rebuilding your confidence. Instead of being afraid, you can learn to take those negative thoughts and reframe them into positive ones. The hypnosis works by helping to remove your undesirable subconscious messages that cause your fears, so you feel more relaxed and in the moment.

Don’t Let ED or PE Ruin Your Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is the day that is filled with images of chocolate, flowers, gifts, cards, romance…and for many, it also means a time of sexual intimacy with the love of their life. But for some couples, moments like this can be a source of great stress, especially if the man is suffering from Erectile Dysfunction (ED) and/or Premature Ejaculation (PE).

Many men who come to see me for hypnosis to help with these issues, say that the ost frustrating part is that they know there is often nothing physically wrong with them—it’s just all in their head. ED and PE are forms of performance anxiety, and can often be devastating to a relationship.

Erectile Dysfunction and Premature Ejaculation have multiple causes, both physical and psychological. They are frustrating conditions that can affect many men, and disturb not only Valentine’s Day, but most other days of the year too, in terms of their sexual partners and relationships. Occasional episodes of ED or PE are normal, but persistent symptoms often require treatment.

Whether your issue is physiological or psychological, hypnosis may be the answer to help put the “zing” back into your bedroom! When my clients learn to relax, go with the flow, and resist overthinking every issue, their ability to perform more successfully will increase.

We have an incredible sale on right now! You can get $100.00 off any hypnosis program you sign up for. Just be sure to mention the code:  “ITSPOSSIBLE2018” when booking to take advantage of the offer.

We offer a FREE, no-obligation screening session to see if hypnosis will work for you.  Call us NOW at (647) 210-8842 for your no-cost consultation, and get your sex life back on track for Valentine’s Day, and on all other days too!

Can I Be Hypnotized?

“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t. You’re right.”  – Henry Ford

Hypnosis 101

Hypnosis is real. However it is not what you’ve seen on TV and in the movies. There is no “mind control” or anything absurd like that. As a hypnotist, I cannot make you quack like a duck, reveal secrets, give me your money, or do anything against your will. While you are hypnotized, you have a higher level of concentration and focus on your inner thoughts. You will only do and say what you want to do and say.

I perform a free screening and consultation with every client, just to see if hypnosis is will work for them and if they can be hypnotized. Many clients who come to see me, are not sure whether or not they will be hypnotized and if they can accomplish their goal. I explain to them that hypnosis can be a very effective tool whether their goal is to:

  • lose weight
  • quit smoking
  • break a habit
  • build confidence
  • reduce their stress
  • get over a fear

Results

Generally speaking, virtually anyone can achieve successful results using hypnosis. All hypnosis, whether it is accomplished with the aid of a hypnotist or not, is self-hypnosis. However in order for hypnosis to be effective, there must be a belief and expectation that it is going to work.

So only you can decide to let go, and allow yourself to be hypnotized. But the more that you let go, relax and follow instructions, the better chance you have of hypnosis working, and the more beneficial experience it will be for you.

In addition, we have an incredible sale on right now! You can get $100.00 off any hypnosis program you sign up for. Just be sure to mention the code:  “” when booking to take advantage of the offer.

FORMING GOOD HABITS

“Breaking old habits and forming new ones always takes time, but it is WORTH it in the end.”  – Joyce Meyer

We all have habits that we would like to break. These can range from nail biting, teeth grinding, knuckle cracking, skin picking, swearing, overeating, smoking, etc. These bad behavior patterns can develop unconsciously, and then seemingly infiltrate all areas of our lives, eventually driving us crazy with each tick, chew, or smoke.

The question many ask is how do you form good habits? The first step is to break the bad habit. The challenge that many encounter when trying to do this is the simple fact that habits just don’t respond to commands. You cannot take a deep breath, gather all of your willpower, and say to yourself, for example, “I will not bite my nails any longer!”, and then expect to stop. I mean, you may stop temporarily, but in a short time, chances are you will find that you’ve started doing the bad habit again.

So what to do?

My clients have found that hypnosis very effective in helping to break past unwanted behaviors, and to start forming good habits. By using hypnosis, we get right to the crux of the negative habit, which is in the unconscious mind. Of course you do need to have willpower to help motivate you to deal with your unwanted behaviors, but what is really required is a “mindset change” to be finished with the habits. Hypnosis helps with this, and yes if you are ready, then it truly works!

I offer a free screening to see if hypnosis will work for you! If you would like more information about any of our programs including getting rid of your bad habits and forming good ones, please contact us to book your free screening at (647) 210-8842

Overcoming The Fear Of Starting a Business Or Career Change

I have many clients looking for help to make a change in their life. Quite often this change is related to their career. Whether your monthly bills and expenses are high or low, the prospect of changing jobs, or in some cases starting your own business can be very daunting. The resulting fear that accompanies this can be overwhelming.

It can be downright scary leaving your secure job for new pastures, or in some cases starting your own business from scratch.

  • What if I don’t make enough money?
  • What if I don’t like it?
  • What if I fail?

These “what if’s” can often hold us back and the fear takes over.

Imagine if we were able to eliminate fear from our lives? The possibilities would be endless.

For instance, just charging forward in your search for a new job or opening up that business you’ve always wanted, without worry of what will happen. If you did this, you would then be living “in the moment” and be open to the possibilities of what could be, without fear. You would be going with the flow. Sounds good, right?

As amazing as that sounds, it is easier said than done for many people. Often we first have to learn to let go, and erase any feelings of self-doubt. The next steps are moving forward and working on negative thought patterns by replacing them with positive ones, and this also enables you to boost your self-confidence to help you to attain your goals.

Hypnosis can help you overcome many fears, and make the stress of transition in your life easier to handle.

We offer a free screening to see if hypnosis is right for you. If you would like more information about any of our programs including helping your to get over your fear of changing your job or embarking on a new business venture, please contact us to book your free screening at (647) 210-8842.

Practicing Self-Care

“I see my body as an instrument, rather than an ornament.” – Alanis Morissette

It All Starts With You

Everything in your life starts with you. I have many clients who come to the Greater Toronto Hypnosis Centre office, because they are in need of fixing something about themselves. Whether they are trying to quit smoking, lose weight, increase their confidence, reduce stress, or get over some fear or performance anxiety, I explain to them that it all starts with YOU first. If you do not prioritize self-care and attention to yourself, then how can you possibly have enough resources to give to someone else (your kids, your job, your spouse, etc.)?

You Are A Priority

The idea of practicing self-care is not a new one…but it is one that not many consider as important as other things. Taking care of yourself must be a priority.  The analogy I use finds its roots from being a passenger on an airplane. Before the plane takes off, the flight attendants always go through the safety information. Included in this are the instructions that if there is a cabin air decompression, an oxygen mask drops down from above your head. They explain that you are to take the mask and put it on, and breathe normally. However the direction that many people miss is that if you are sitting beside a child or someone elderly, you are to put on your oxygen mask FIRST and then help them with theirs. The reason is that if you collapse from lack of oxygen, then you’re certainly no good to your companion to assist them in breathing. I find this example to be an ideal illustration of how you must practice self-care, and in life, put on your “oxygen mask” first before helping or doing for others. If you don’t take care of yourself and get sick because you’re working so hard for your company, then how are you to continue your job?

So the concept of self-care is one I talk to my clients about a lot. I explain that while taking care of others is important, they must prioritize THEMSELVES first. Take the time to be good to your mind, body and spirit, and then you can work on the issue that you’re trying to fix. If one of these self-care items involves kicking a habit, losing weight, getting rid of stress, etc., then hypnosis might be a perfect tool to help you do this.

Call us now at (647) 210-8842 for your FREE screening to see if hypnosis is right for you, and learn how to practice self-care.
